Out-of-pocket spending for healthcare leads to catastrophic health expenditure and even poverty for many households in low- and middle-income countries, which is a barrier towards achieving universal health coverage (SDG 3.8.2). Empirical investigations on the effects of OOP on universal health coverage will be presented. In addition, concepts and definition related to UHC indicators will be discussed.
