Studies show that student participation correlates with better learning outcomes, yet only a handful of students participate in class. This project seeks to identify which preparation and classroom activities enhance specifically law students’ participation. The project adopts a broad definition of “active participation”. We conducted a literature review of the educational science literature and legal education literature and identified a taxonomy of in-class activities, which can enhance student participation. As such, we identified six main activities, the socratic method, problem based learning, case based learning (moot court), arguing, tests and quizzes and finally feedback exercises.
